RNS Rocks: Maxïmo Park + Field Music + Martha Hill

Sage One

Due to unforeseen circumstances we are sorry to announce that Du Blonde will no longer be performing this evening. We are delighted to announce that Martha Hill will be performing in her place.

Join three of the North East’s most exciting musical exports as they perform their own music, arranged especially for Royal Northern Sinfonia to kickstart the orchestra’s 60th birthday weekend and show just how versatile a 21st century chamber orchestra can be.

Ever-changing and politically charged, Maxïmo Park perform their irresistible pop songs about anger, hope, resistance and, above all, empathy – a knockout fusion of music and message from a band on extraordinary form.

Already friends and collaborators of Royal Northern Sinfonia, Field Music will be bringing to life their recent album Open Here with expanded orchestration following on from their performances with their Open Here Orchestra earlier in the year at the Northern Stage and Barbican in London.

No other existing British group gets near their level of creativity, nor manages to fuse lyrical and musical complexity with the sense of people in love with the lyrical properties of great musicMojo

Martha Hill’s left-field pop has taken her from busking on Northumberland Street to selling out shows around Newcastle. The talented multi-instrumentalist plays tonight with her band, and a section of Royal Northern Sinfonia.

“her distinctive husky vocal parading through the lyrics with an intriguing apathy” The Line of Best Fit

Royal Northern Sinfonia, Orchestra of Sage Gateshead, is the UK’s only full-time chamber orchestra and the leading professional orchestra in the North East. This event is part of the Orchestra’s 60th birthday celebrations. For 60 years, Royal Northern Sinfonia has been delighting audiences across the region and beyond and truly is a local chamber orchestra with a global reputation.
